25th Street Pedestrian Bridge Clean up
December 13, 2025
Since 2021, Bear Creek Yacht Club has been a fully volunteer run organization cleaning and restoring Bear Creek. In that time, volunteers have removed over 100 tons of trash and are closing in on 200 tons. That only happened because people showed up.
Over the years, volunteer numbers have dropped. With fewer hands, we are holding the line, not winning the war on trash. The problem has not slowed down. Our capacity has.
Bear Creek starts in Mariposa County, runs through Merced, and ends at the San Joaquin River. Right now, we only work within the Merced city limits. We would love to expand throughout the county, but manpower and funding limit how far we can go.
This is bigger than one group. Join Bear Creek Yacht Club, or if you are interested in starting your own cleanup effort, we are happy to help you get started. You do not need to start from scratch.
If you have ever said “someone should do something,” this is the something. Welcome aboard.
2025 EVENTS ARE WRAPPED FOR THE SEASON.
Looking back on 2025, one thing is clear: when our community shows up, great things happen. This year’s creek clean ups brought neighbors, families and partners together to care for our local waterways. Waterlogged waders, muddy boots, full trash bags and all.
These mornings are about more than litter removal. They spark connection, pride and a shared sense of stewardship for the places we call home.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, supported or cheered us on. Your energy and care make this work possible. Here’s to cleaner creeks, a resilient community and more moments like these.
